About Us
stepstokm.com began as a small utility to answer a simple question: “How far did I really go?” Pedometers, phones, and watches all show step counts—but distance still depends on your stride. We built a calculator that lets you estimate distance (or steps) using an average stride preset, a height-based stride estimate, or your own measured stride for maximum accuracy.
Today, the calculator supports quick unit switching (kilometers, miles, meters, feet, yards) and a male/female toggle to refine estimates. Enter steps or distance—either field updates the other in real time—so you can plan routes, sanity-check device readouts, or translate daily step goals into distance you can picture.
What we care about
- Accuracy first. Clear assumptions and formulas; easy controls for height and stride length.
- Privacy by default. No accounts required. Inputs are handled by your browser to generate on-screen results.
- Speed & clarity. A clean, mobile-friendly interface that feels instant and obvious.
- Accessibility. Keyboard-friendly inputs, readable type, and sensible focus states.
Where this is going
- Better stride guidance by activity (easy walk vs. run)
- Save and compare scenarios (e.g., weekday vs. weekend)
- Optional export to CSV/PDF
- Dark mode and more ergonomic mobile controls
